kohchosai-122-japanese-bamboo-trivet-pot-holder
Japanese Bamboo Trivet – Pot Holder

Bamboo Trivet Pot Holder handcrafted in Kyoto, Japan — protects your table from hot pots and pans.
Made by Kohchosai Kosuga, a Kyoto bamboo house founded in Tokyo in 1898 and appointed that same year a purveyor to the Imperial Household. Within thirteen years its work had taken prizes at three world exhibitions — St. Louis in 1904, London in 1910 and Dresden in 1911. The house moved to Kyoto in 1947 and has worked there ever since; fifteen people work there today.
The name belongs to a painter. The founder, Ueda Kōchō, was official painter to the eleventh Tokugawa lord of Kishū and studied under Matsumura Goshun of the Shijō school; his paintings are held today by Nishi Hongan-ji and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. The workshop carries his art name — which is why a bamboo house has a painter's sense of line.
Their bamboo is cut in the cold months, November to February. In March the oil is steamed out of it and it is hung in the sun to dry for over a month, before the rains come. The first split is made with a kikuwari, a knife made for nothing but splitting bamboo; width is set to the millimetre, and depending on the piece the bamboo is taken down to 0.2–0.5 mm. The weaving is done almost entirely by hand.
• Design: Japanese Made Pot Trivet
• Hand-woven bamboo — slight variations in colour and grain are the natural charm of handmade work; no two pieces are alike
• Options available — choose your size before checkout
• Arrives carefully packed — ready for gifting
Specifications — Material: Hand-woven bamboo · Origin: Kyoto, Japan · Maker: Kohchosai Kosuga
Handmade in Kyoto, Japan by Kohchosai Kosuga.
