Glassware handcrafted in Kyoto, Japan — a hand-blown glass piece with quiet sculptural presence.
Made by Daisuke Matsumoto at Glass Studio Calore in Kameoka, Kyoto — the small city west of Kyoto where our indigo dyers and our potter also work.
He was born in Kyoto in 1978 and began in glass in 1997. He worked at K's Blowing, helped build the fresco studio in 2000 and joined its staff under the glass artist Takeshi Tsujino, took a degree and then a research year in formative arts — his graduation show took the school's excellence prize in 2004 — and was selected for the Takaoka Craft Competition in 2007. He ran the glass studio at Hakone CRAFTHOUSE as deputy head from 2006 and the one at Izu as its head from 2012.
In 2015, after eighteen years at other people's furnaces, he opened his own. Everything here is blown by hand, so no two pieces carry exactly the same line.
• Design: Antique Lid Small Bottle
• Hand-blown glass — slight variations in colour and grain are the natural charm of handmade work; no two pieces are alike
• Arrives carefully packed — ready for gifting
Care: Hand-wash gently; avoid sudden temperature shocks and abrasive sponges.
