Bring a quiet, moonlit mood into your space with this Japanese linen noren curtain in pale moon indigo gradient. Hand-dyed with natural indigo and crafted using traditional itajime board-clamp shibori, each piece is made one at a time for a soft, breathable feel and a serene, calming presence—whether used as a doorway curtain, window piece, or textile art.
Traditional Kyo-asagi revival
Kyoto has long been known for water-indigo dyeing called Kyo-asagi, which disappeared in 1923. A family workshop in Kameoka revived the craft as Kyoho-ai and continues to dye every piece by hand, one at a time—preserving a centuries-old tradition in a modern, artisanal form.
Hand-dyed indigo gradient with itajime shibori
The “Usuzuki” (faint moon) design shows the moon slipping from full to new, glimpsed through thin clouds—each phase pressed into the cloth with itajime (traditional board-clamp shibori), then dyed in Ryukyu natural indigo. Hang it where light passes through: in sunlight, the moons glow like a night sky in reverse.
One-of-a-kind, made for your order
Because every dip in the vat is done by hand, no two of these skies are ever alike. This is a custom-made noren, created specifically for your order.
How to use it
Use it as a doorway curtain, a window piece, or textile art for a wall—ideal for spaces where you want a gentle, light-filtering presence with a distinctly Japanese, minimalist aesthetic.
