In the bamboo groves west of Kyoto, the workshop of Nagaoka Meichiku tends and crafts kyo-meichiku - the famous ornamental bamboos of Kyoto prized for centuries in tea houses and temples: pale shirotake, sesame-speckled gomadake, and tortoise-shell kikko-chiku. Every piece is cut, cured and finished by hand by Kyoto bamboo craftsmen.
The mutsume (six-eye) weave - a classic Kyoto lattice - turned into a standing panel that softens and scatters the light. Use it as a room accent, a shop display, or wall art. Hand-woven strips of Kyoto bamboo in a wooden frame.
