Hozuai
Japanese Leather Earrings – Indigo Hand-Dyed, Pierced or Clip On, Hypoallergenic
For centuries Kyoto dyed cloth in a water-indigo called Kyo-asagi — until it vanished in 1923. A family workshop in Kameoka revived it as Kyoho-ai, and dyes every piece by hand, one at a time.
These earrings are cut from 100% cowhide, hand-dyed in Ryukyu indigo with the arashi ("storm") shibori technique. Because each pair is cut from a different part of the dyed hide, no two patterns are alike — you will discover your own one-of-a-kind indigo when it arrives. Leather keeps them feather-light on the ear, while the deep Japan Blue lends real presence and quiet luxury. Choose your design and fitting:
• Round Flower — oval disc stamped with a blossom
• Leaf — a flowing leaf silhouette with white edge
• Teardrop — deep indigo drop on a white base
Each in Pierced (surgical stainless steel posts, hypoallergenic ~1 cm) or Clip On (nickel-free, no piercing needed ~1.3 cm).
• 100% cowhide, hand-dyed • Ryukyu natural indigo, arashi shibori
• Hand-dyed in Kameoka, Kyoto • One of a kind
• Ships direct from Japan
Care: the indigo leather has a light top coat, but strong rubbing against clothing may transfer colour.
